Illustration Friday…seed

May 5, 2008

I planted a seed and now I have a beautiful flower. My flower grows separate from the other flowers. She is a beautiful, unique and giving flower, but the other flowers don’t see that. She tries to share her beauty but is often ignored. As long as she keeps true to herself and doesn’t let any seed of insecurity or self doubt grow, she will not become the weed the others may…..

Illustration Friday – pet peeves

March 26, 2008

(I have been saying peeves over in my head too many times to the point where I don’t think it sounds like a real word…anyway….)

My pet peeves me when I am used a kneading pillow in the wee hours of the morning. And quite often find that his back side is too close to my eyeballs.

This is a stretch, but I doodled this a bit ago, before soccer ended, and I wanted to revisit……and I only saw this player do a handstand and a few cartwheels once, at a practice even…..that’s it   **wink**wink**

illustration friday – scale

November 11, 2007

…..the scale this week teetered between “could possibly be broken” and “must be wrong”.

Illustration Friday – simple

February 14, 2006
This is not an illustration in my opinion but rather a painting. But I got to thinking about how simple a white bowl is. A small white bowl placed on the table, nothing in it, nothing around it. Honestly it is was the hardest still life I painted in college, painting a white bowl.

This is not my college painting, but a piece I did last year, for a show in July. It took me weeks, actually maybe more than two months come to think of it. When you really study a white bowl, there is absolutely nothing truly white about it. What eludes me is that fine area between shadow and hightlight. That is a precious, sensitive area, that if not captured correctly you can lose the integrity of the whole piece.

Illustration Friday – cats

January 22, 2006

We have a Maine Coon cat. His name is Buddy and he has very long hair. What a wonderful cat he is. Friendly, loving, good looking and vets and groomers have often said he has a small, dainty head. He often gets very matted, his fur gets knotted up and he’s uncomfortable. So a few years back we got him groomed, well shaved was our intention. We were asked if we wanted a lion’s cut. So now, about twice a year, he goes for his manly trim.

About nine years ago, when we got him, it was our intention to keep him as an indoor cat. He seemed happy most of the time, never really trying to get out. Now we have lived in this new house for about a one and a half years, and it has sliders. The children have a hard time closing them fast enough. He is quick.

So, needless to say, I know my cat well, but even on an oddball day this weekend, with temps in the sixty’s, I was out raking(not shovelling!), I do a double take. When I see this gray cat and his paint brush tail, prowling the jungles of our pines, I start humming the theme song to Lion King, “Circle of Life” and of course, “Hakuna Matada”, hmmmm, hmmm, “means no worries”……..
