This is definitely last minute…

June 25, 2009

knitted knockersAs I pack it up for the summer, my list includes summer reading, summer knitting, a smattering of art supplies(good thing they don’t get moldy…since they haven’t been used since the end of last summer….hmmmph). So my running list of late has had the “find a knitting project for the summer” on it. Well…I did promise a dear family member last summer that I would look into knitted breasts, since she saw me knitting my “summer knitting project”. And, like leaving it to the last minute….my summer project is going to be to quickly knit her up a couple of sets of tatas! titties! boobies! The terminology doesn’t offend!

This site has a great pattern, http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall05/PATTbits.html, and this site, http://theknittingexperience.com/knitted_knockers_program/ is just a good reference. I think I might see if I have time enough to start a weekly or bi-weekly knitting group to knit these knockers up for donation….sounds good to me!!!!

Rug Update

January 20, 2006

A thank you goes out to all those you responded with advice about my spiral rug. I have been blocking as I go along and I am fairly confident I will have a flat rug in the end.

Sadly it is a pretty boring project. As the spirals get bigger, the more boring it gets. I look forward to sewing it together, because then you feel like you are getting somewhere.

In the end, I may need to put a stiff backing, like a canvas, to help keep it’s shape. I also may need to let block by pinning it to a wall to wall carpet while it is damp. But at least I feel confident to move forward.

I think you all know what I will be doing this weekend. Enjoy yours!

Knitting a Rug

January 12, 2006
For the last two days I have been excited about starting “the rug”. I picked up this book

over the summer and have been salvitating (sp?) ever since. Well, I promised myself that if I finished those slippers, my reward would be being able to start “the rug”.

Budgets are a little tight and we desperately need rugs. Our wood floors are getting so scratched and worn. As well as the furniture becomes amusement rides for the children, as the ottomans and chairs seem to move more easily on the wood. But, crappy krabby patties, to knit a wool rug is, or can be expensive. I am using scraps. But I do not care about matching colors or anything. This is soley for function. I do think it will have a nice look with the haphazardness of mix-matched colors. Here is how it is going so far.

After day one:

Then last night I did more:

Here’s my dilema, and the book admits this, it is turning into a basket…bowl…I dunno, but I am getting a little scared. Instructions say to sew together as you go along. I am. But the fear of the unknown. Is this going to ever block flat? Any suggestions or words of comfort would be GREATLY appreciated. Here is a better view of the basket, no rug….

Oooooohhhh, yeah I am really unsure about this…..

Slippers Done!

January 10, 2006
Hee hee hee, better late than never! I am a real prize sometimes. I talked about doing these slippers back in November! I definately put them off do get quilts and sweaters made, but now that there done, I really wonder why they took me so long!

Like I said almost 2 months ago, they aren’t difficult but every row needs attention. You have to love the act of felting. It is such a simple, yet magical process.

BEFORE, I put the apple there to help give some perspective on their size.

AFTER, they are drying after the hot bath they got.

Close up of my embellishing. Hope she likes them. We are going into a January thaw around these parts, but maybe her feet could still use some heat…..

RUBY UPDATE

We have cohabitation!

Some homemadeness

January 2, 2006
Well it is monday, the second day of the new year and our tree is leaning outside against another tree. It is keeping the other trees company before the ol’ heave ho. Between vacuuming and packing up santa’s I downloaded some pictures from the camera.

I found the wedding/christmas gift quilt I made my brother and his new wife. I never did get a photo of it completely finished, or a photo of the back. Maybe someday I will remember to get one. This was a real challenge. It is queen size. I only used 6″ blocks but I still tried to make a definitive pattern with the colors. Each fabric used has a particular meaning to me. It is funny when you put your heart and soul into something it is hard to give it away.

Here is the sweater I made my mom. I used Mission Falls 18/24 wool and the pattern is v-neck neckdown cardigan by Knitting Pure and Simple. Nice pattern. I made the bands with the seed stitch and used less buttons than they did. I also didn’t make it quite as long.

I sewed in a ribbon band and the button holes. The buttons are not handmade but I thought they were neat.

I also had great fun making stitch markers using polymer clay.

I will try to post more things I made as I come across them. I am terrible about taking photographs. It is always too late when I remember I forgot to get a photo.

Cold Feet

November 21, 2005

I have been procrastinating (there is that word again) on these slippers for too long now. They are a gift and need to be finished. So I can make the next pair.

They are Fiber Trends Felt Clog pattern using Lopi. They are surprisingly simple, but you need to pay attention to every row. Here is the pair I knit for myself,

and when you wear them with a pair of handmade socks, your feet are on fire!!!!

Best of all, you can slip and slide all over the kitchen. Maybe I should attach a swiffer pad to the bottom and save time.
