What is blogging?

July 2, 2009 by rebecca

the-thinker I remember the first blog I came across, well over 5 yrs ago, maybe 6, and I was so taken. This person, putting her thoughts, crafts, baking, sewing, findings all out there on this web page. My husband then said, “Why don’t you start a blog?” And I was nervous, and excited and next thing I knew, I was overwhelmed and it became all consuming. But I enjoyed it. Blogging motivated me to create, finish what I started, and share it. Next thing I knew I was incorporating my family and life into it, and making so many wonderful friends. But it did become all too much so I definately started fading. But the family, all my family, extended and so forth enjoyed it. And we enjoyed looking back at the holidays and reminiscing.

So recently I have become more interested in starting back up, but for my intentions it is personal. It is at this point, not to advertise myself, or generate ad money. Not to say I never would do that, but for me, taking it slow and “cataloguing” my life and interests, for my small circle of friends and family. The question that comes into play is blogging something that you are held accountable to comment on other blogs that you enjoy reading?

Just like high school or college or 5th grade, there are cliques, and “the popular crowd”. I find it sad that this is the case, and it can be found in every age group, town, neighborhood. I guess I am not going to let my blogging fall into that. If you blog, and it is public and I feel compelled to read it, I will leave a comment if I want to. I have experienced many times, that I do not get a response, even if I ask a question, and that does not feel good. In fact, it is rude, and quite often I don’t revisit, and certainly don’t comment again.

Blogging has taken a turn since I rested my eyes on my first one. It is all about the advertising and money for so many. And that is okay. Take it for what it is. Enjoy what they show you and leave it at that. It is the blogs that can successfully respect your comments and still advertise themselves that will stay on your bloglines.

If you stumble upon my blog, and want to comment I would love it. With that said, I openly appreciate any comments, and can’t ever imagine that I would get too many comments to warrant exusing myself of replying.

The View From Here

Well we have made to our summer digs and the kids are in camp. All I can say is rain, rain go away! Can it be possible for it to rain every day for the rest of your life?

This is definitely last minute…

knitted knockersAs I pack it up for the summer, my list includes summer reading, summer knitting, a smattering of art supplies(good thing they don’t get moldy…since they haven’t been used since the end of last summer….hmmmph). So my running list of late has had the “find a knitting project for the summer” on it. Well…I did promise a dear family member last summer that I would look into knitted breasts, since she saw me knitting my “summer knitting project”. And, like leaving it to the last minute….my summer project is going to be to quickly knit her up a couple of sets of tatas! titties! boobies! The terminology doesn’t offend!

This site has a great pattern, http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall05/PATTbits.html, and this site, http://theknittingexperience.com/knitted_knockers_program/ is just a good reference. I think I might see if I have time enough to start a weekly or bi-weekly knitting group to knit these knockers up for donation….sounds good to me!!!!

Old Addages Proven Old…

June 23, 2009 by rebecca

April Showers brought us into a beautiful May, and now June is the new April. The Northeast has seen more than it’s fair share of wetness. We are having our house painted and have given up hoping it will be dry enough before July 4th!!!

At least my gardens are thriving.

Wiley Coyote and Bugs Bunny help!

December 8, 2008 by rebecca

We are going through adjustments. Whether it be with changing hormones, on many levels, challenging school work, adolescence, or living with one less parent more often than we want, times are sometimes turmultuous in our house.

Kids are kids, and parents need their space too. Well, I do, maybe not all parents. But we had it out tonight. And this is sort of an apology to my kids, to my outburst and to my poor explanation of why I said what I said. I love you all, and you all mean the world to me. I am adjusting to always being alone, trying to find a voice that you actually listen to. Most of the time I feel invisible, screaming without anyone hearing me. I can’t seem to find a voice that makes you jump, truly listen, the “you know I mean business” voice.

And this was my lame attempt at a good old fashioned cartoon graphic of what I remember a good old fashioned collision was like on a good old fashioned cartoon.

The sugar isn’t agreeing with us….

December 6, 2008 by rebecca

Okay, I tried. Really I did. What was supposed to be a fun family holiday craft has turned, well, out of control. As a child my aunt and cousins(my aunts kids) and therefor my cousins…see the sugar is screwing with me…would always make a gingerbread house. And when we went to visit, we could tear off a mint jelly candy or an M&M, a piece of gingerbread, and I was envious.

Well, not anymore. What a bloody mess. I would win the Ugliest Gingerbread House contest for sure. And as far as having any patience, well, screw that too! Thank my stars it was only $7 for this kit. Double thank my stars that I didn’t go through the effort of making everything from scratch. Which I believe my aunt did. I applaud her, standing!! Let’s have a fudgin ovation!!!!

So before I absolutely lose all of my christmas spirit, I am putting this gingerbread house to rest. And for heavens sake, we have licked and licked our way to this point. So much so, my boy has wierd things going on with his eyes….something like what I would think a charging bull might look like. Or the Grinch the day after Christmas in this economy. And Maddy’s voice is up an octave, no three octaves and Kaylee is double talking….

So we are washing our hands, literally and spiritually and physically of gingerbread house making! Get your last licks in kids! Greg, enjoy your tomten!!

The Night Gravity Met My Swag!!

December 3, 2008 by rebecca

Okay, I have joined a local Garden Club, and have really enjoyed it. Last months meeting was a demonstration from an amazing woman who showed us how to make centerpieces and well, this swag! So for this months meeting it was a “make your own” kind of thing. And with the help of my friend/guest, this is what I walked away with….I now have a new friend and it’s name is OASIS Floral Foam.

Well, I found a door hanger and decided to hang it up last night at 10:30pm. I kept asking my friend, “Aren’t the branches going to fall out when I go to hang it….gravity and all….?”   “Oh, no, no, just you wait, it will be fine” …. she tells me.

Long time friend Gravity did visit me at 10:31pm, and after much cursing and reshoving, so far so good, but we haven’t had any visits from Wind in the last 15 hours. So we wait for our forever friend Time to tell. But I am not deterred. I will visit my friend Oasis again, and hopefully Gravity will play nice.
